President's Message - August 2004
Here's a quick note on the progress of the conservancy. We
received our 501(c)(3) tax exemption from the IRS. We are
an official charity now. One of the primary benefits of 501(c)(3)
status is that donations to the organization are tax deductible.
Charitable donations include not only cash, but gifts of land
and the value of donated interests in real property such as
conservation easements. It's virtually impossible to operate
as a conservancy without this status. This is really our first
major success as an organization.
If you've donated to The Karst Conservancy in the past, then your prior gift is now tax deductible. According to the IRS, our effective date of tax
exemption is the day that the conservancy was incorporated, which is September 9, 2003. If you would like to donate to the Conservancy, click
here.
On behalf of the entire Board of Directors of The Karst Conservancy, I would like to thank the members of the Florida Speleological Society for their
donation earlier this year to help with the filing expense for our tax exempt application. We are grateful for your early investment in The Karst Conservancy.
This important first step would not have been possible without the generous support of the FSS.
That's it for now. I'll post more good news soon.
Bill Walker
President
The Karst Conservancy
