Land Trust Standards and Practices
The board of The Karst Conservancy recently passed a resolution to move the organization into compliance with the Land Trust Alliance's Standards and Practices. The Land Trust Alliance
is the national organization of land trusts (of which The Karst Conservancy is a member.) The Land Trust Standards and Practices are guidelines for the responsible operation of
a land trust, which is run legally and ethically. The Land Trust Alliance developed the Standards in 1989 at the urging of land trusts, who believe a strong land trust community depends
on the credibility and effectiveness of all its members. LTA currently requires all of its member land trusts to adopt the Land Trust Standards and Practices.
The Karst Conservancy has set a goal to adopt the standards as our operating guidelines by March 2005. The Conservancy must develop extensive written policies and procedures to move
into compliance with the standards. This includes the development of accounting procedures, land protection policies, project selection criteria, due diligence procedures, and personnel
policies.
We Need Help
If you think that you can help The Karst Conservancy in developing these policies, we need your help. Contact Bill Walker at
